New Physics Search in Flavour Physics ∗ a †

With the running B, kaon and neutrino physics experiments, flavour physics takes centre stage within today’s particle physics. We discuss the opportunities offered by these experiments in our search for new physics beyond the SM and discuss their complementarity to collider physics. We focus on rare B and kaon decays, highlighting specific observables in an exemplary mode. We also comment on th...

New Physics from HERA ?

The H1 and ZEUS experiments at the HERA e ± p collider at Hamburg have recently reported some anomalous hard-scattering events, which could be indicative of new physics beyond the standard model. I have tried to discuss in a nonspecialist language the significance of this result for particle physics along with its interpretation in terms of the currently popular extensions of the standard model.

New Physics at Lep2

Searches for new physics in the first year of running of LEP2, at energies of 161 and 172 GeV, are summarized. After a short review of WW results and their implications on new physics, searches for the Higgs boson and SUSY particles, analyses of four-jet final states and constraints on possible explanations for the HERA high Q 2 anomaly are discussed in turn.

isospin-violating New Physics

The 2.5σ discrepancy between theory and experiment observed in the difference ACP(B − → πK)−ACP(B̄ → π+K−) can be explained by a new electroweak penguin amplitude. Motivated by this result, we analyse the purely isospinviolating decays B̄s → φρ0 and B̄s → φπ0, which are dominated by electroweak penguins, and show that in presence of a new electroweak penguin amplitude their branching ratio can be ...

New Physics and Hypercomputation

Does new physics give us a chance for designing computers, at least in principle, which could compute beyond the Turing barrier? By the latter we mean computers which could compute some functions which are not Turing computable. Part of what we call “new physics” is the surge of results in black hole physics in the last 15 years, which certainly changed our perspective on certain things. The tw...
